AhlulBayt News Agency: War was initiated by US, Israeli regime. It’s them that must end it. Iran has legitimate right to retaliate.
Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) has issued a statement warning against the joint US-Israeli aggression as ‘one of the most serious military confrontations in the region in decades.
Azmi Abdul Hamid, the president of MAPIM has urged for immediate cession of hostilities, respect for Iran’s sovereignty, protection of the civilians and also a return to diplomacy.
The following is the full text of the statement by MAPIM:
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) reiterates that the current war in the Middle East did not emerge in a vacuum. The escalation began when the pre-planned strike by United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran on 28 February 2026, targeting multiple military and leadership sites across the country.
The US-Israel regime strikes are now targeting schools, hospitals, communities’ facilities and residences.
These attacks, which reportedly involved hundreds of airstrikes across several Iranian cities, marked one of the most serious military confrontations in the region in decades.
MAPIM stresses that once war is initiated through such large-scale military action, the responsibility for ending the escalation lies primarily with those who initiated the conflict.
Continued bombardment and retaliation will only push the Middle East toward a wider regional war that could destabilize global security and harm millions of civilians.
Iran has already responded with missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. and allied military facilities in the region following the initial attacks. These are legitimate responses.
Under international law, states often claim the right to self-defense when they come under attack.
However, MAPIM strongly emphasizes that further escalation, particularly attacks that could expand the battlefield beyond the immediate conflict zone, would endanger global stability and civilian lives.
The urgent priority must now be:
• Immediate cessation of hostilities
• Protection of civilian populations
• Respect for the sovereignty of all nations
• A return to diplomacy and international mediation
The Muslim world and the wider international community must not allow this conflict to spiral into a catastrophic regional war.
MAPIM also reminds the world that while geopolitical confrontation dominates headlines, the suffering of the Palestinian people continues. The root causes of instability in the Middle East cannot be separated from the unresolved question of Palestine and the ongoing occupation.
The international community must act decisively to prevent further escalation and to restore a path toward justice, peace, and stability in the region.
